Amazing 21 kilometers of new tracks were laid in Świnoujście and Szczecin. The new railroad will improve access to these harbors. 14 km of new tracks were laid in the area of Świnoujście Central Station. All necessary technologies were also installed in the station. For example, technologies for railway traffic management, traction network or safety. The underground parts of the track were reinforced. The modernization of engineering networks will also take place.
This modernization is part of the port railway project. A total of 84 km of traction network will be modernized. 100 km of tracks in the ports of Świnoujście and Szczecin will also be modernized. In Świnoujście, 35 km of tracks will be reconstructed. In Szczecin 61 km. A total of 5,285 rail-switches will also be replaced. There will be 22 railway crossings installed on the line - 12 of those in Szczecin and another 10 in Świnoujście. In addition, the port of Szczecin is planned for the reconstruction of the existing bridge over the Parnica River. Three viaducts will also be reconstructed.
Due to the modernization, longer and heavier freight trains will be able to run to the ports. The capacity of both ports will be increased. This will have a positive economic impact on the whole region.
The modernization will cost EUR 325.3 million. EUR 110.6 million will be covered by the EU's Connecting Europe Facility.
