XPO Logistics has unveiled a multimodal transportation route between Italy's Domodossola and Duisburg in Germany. The daily service covers a 900 km distance predominantly by rail, marking a significant stride towards sustainable freight movement. Each journey undertaken by this method is projected to reduce carbon emissions by about one ton - an environmental impact equivalent to the daily carbon absorption capacity of over 14,600 trees.

Embracing technology to enhance their operations, XPO utilizes P400 semi-trailers equipped with GPS tracking for their new Italy-Germany route. This integration enables real-time monitoring via a control tower, thus boosting the service’s efficiency and providing customers with precise updates on their shipments' status and location. This initiative underscores XPO’s commitment to fostering operational excellence while prioritizing environmental sustainability and security in their logistic services.

This move is part of XPO's broader strategy to offer sustainable transport alternatives that align with customers’ ecological objectives without compromising on operational effectiveness. Alongside the new Italy-Germany route, XPO operates several other multimodal routes across Europe, integrating rail, road, and short-sea shipping. According to Massimo Marsili, Managing Director for Southern Europe and Morocco at XPO Logistics, this expansion results from the company's persistent drive for innovation, collaboration across international teams, and dedication to reducing the carbon footprint of their operations. XPO continues to customize its extensive portfolio of logistics solutions to serve a diverse range of sectors with both efficiency and environmental consciousness.
