German railway company VTG will deliver 200 new T4000 pocket wagons to Spain in September. They will be equipped with VEGA's roadrailLink (r2L) system for handling trailers without crane use. The new wagons aim to improve international rail transport from Spain.
As stated by Carlos Omaña, Director of Operations of VTG in Spain, until now, international traffic was only possible on standard gauge lines, such as high-speed lines. Thanks to the new connections, it will be possible to transport goods from Spain via France along the TEN-T Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors.

The delivery of 200 new T4000 wagons and r2L platforms is the result of a collaboration between VTG and the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (MITMA), which began in October 2022 to support the transition from road to rail. At that time, VTG received a grant of 37.7 million euros from MITMA. This cooperation also includes the delivery of 150 new 90-foot and 40 new 80-foot wagons, which will be gradually introduced to Spanish railways.
