UAE National Rail Network is the largest infrastructure project in the United Arab Emirates. Recently it has seen a major development with attendance by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and Chairman of Etihad Rail. They were not only present for this historic occasion but had the chance to install the final piece on the railway track.
As a part of the Projects of the 50, with an investment in AED 50 billion, the framework “The UAE Railway Programme” was launched and now thanks to this programme UAE sees the completion of the main railway between the capital of UAE Abu Dhabi and a world-wide famous Dubai.
Of course that the project doesn’t stop there. The United Arab Emirates consists of seven emirates, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, and the UAE Railway Programme intends to connect all seven of them and is expected to create economic opportunities worth up to AED 200 billion.
H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed added: “The completion of the main railway will enhance the strategic position of the project at the transport and infrastructure levels and contributes to the promotion of sustainable development in the UAE, and the consolidation of its position to remain in the first ranks at the regional and global levels.”
The railway has a length of 256 km is designed with environmental aspects, safety, and quality in mind. It includes 29 bridges, 60 crossings and 137 drainage channels. 13,300 workers were part of this and together they put in more than 47 million hours of work.
