The winner of the tender for metro construction in the capital city of Romania has officially been selected. From the moment the contract is signed, a Turkish association has eight years to complete the work. The work on the first section starts next month.
Gülermak Ağir Sanayi Inșaat Ve Taahhüt A.S. (Turkey), who also worked on the Istanbul and Dubai metro lines, is a winner of the tenders for the 7.6 km Tokyo - Otopeni Airport section of the M6 metro line in Bucharest and the first metro line in Cluj-Napoca, which will have 21.03 km and 19 stations underground and one overground depot. The metro is to have 19 stations and 21.03 kilometres of the tunnel in Cluj and will take approximately eight years of construction costing roughly 2 billion euros. Work on the construction of the first six metro stations of the North Station - 1 Mai - Otopeni Airport Magistrale will begin in a month.
The contract for the first six stations of the M6 was signed in March 2022 with a 48-month deadline for design and execution, but the contract is only for the structure of the stations, not for installations and finishes.
The 1 Mai - Tokyo section will be 6.6 km long and include six new stations. Starting at the Pajura station, running through the Expoziției, Piața Montreal, Gara Băneasa, Aeroport Băneasa and ending at the Tokyo station (Băneasa Shopping Centre). This section will be the first of the metro Line 6 providing a connection to Line 4 via the metro. The Mai station will link the central railway station Gara de Nord with the international airport.
The second section, Băneasa - Otopeni Airport, will be built by Gülermak, and the contract will be signed shortly
Another six stations will be built in the Tokyo - Otopeni Airport section. This line will consist of 7.6 kilometres of tunnel and will take four years of construction and about 255 million euros to complete.

The winner of the contract for the construction of a new section of the M6 metro line linking Henri Coandă International Airport has been named. It is the Gülermak - Somet joint venture. The contract was won based on the award criterion "Best value for money". The sources of funding for the contract are provided by the state budget and external repayable funds - JICA external credit. It is also supported by European Union funds.
The estimated duration of the contract is 48 months and will include six stations (with the following names: Washington, Paris, Bruxelles, Otopeni, Ion I.C. Brătianu, Aeroport Otopeni) and will complete the works for the construction of the entire metro line linking the existing 1 Mai metro station to Otopeni Airport.
In total, the M6 Gara de Nord - Otopeni Airport will have 14 kilometres and 12 stations.
