Today, the new subway of the L123 in the area of Weidlingbachstraße and the new integration of Egererstraße in the Tullnerbach district of Lawies have been opened to traffic. The diversions via the Irenental and the waiting time at the often closed barriers in Lawieserstraße are now a thing of the past.
New road subway for the new railway station
Just in time for Christmas, road traffic is flowing as usual again. After more than a year of construction work on the new Weidlingbachstrasse subway and several weeks of intensive construction work on Egererstrasse, the new subway is now open to traffic. The works were necessary because the railway crossing Lawieserstraße will also be abandoned within the framework of the modernisation of the Tullnerbach-Pressbaum railway station. Thus, the subway had to be brought up to the current state of the art. For this purpose, a new tunnel with two lanes and a minimum clearance of 4.70 metres as well as a walkway was built.

Especially the work on the new, flatter integration of Egererstraße was a challenge for the construction companies and the project management. Because obtaining the legal notices took longer than planned, the available construction time was significantly shorter than planned. The work, therefore, had to be carried out in a concentrated manner over the past weeks. It required a complete closure of Egererstraße for several weeks. The changing weather conditions added to the difficult general conditions.
Finalisation of the roadway in early summer
The cold weather is also why both roads are not yet finally finished. Traffic will continue to roll on the so-called base course of the road and with temporary road markings until early summer. Only when the weather is warm can the final road surface be applied with the surface course. There will be another half-lane road closure for this in 2023.

Start of the actual station reconstruction
The main work on the modernisation of the station will start at the beginning of 2023. Right at the start of the year, on 10 January 2023, the Lawieserstrasse railway crossing will be abandoned. It will be followed by the reconstruction of the station while the railway is in operation. For this purpose, all train traffic will be handled on the southbound tracks, i.e. the previous platform in the direction of Vienna, since the beginning of November 2022. The changeover will take place in the middle of the year, and the north side of the station will be available for arriving and departing trains. It will result in longer distances for passengers.
