This afternoon, the first Polish hydrogen-powered shunting locomotive had a premiere on the exhibition tracks near Amberexpo.
''I express absolute satisfaction and I am proud of the victory of Polish engineering thinking, congratulations to the Polish engineers, congratulations Pesa Bydgoszcz ! - said Poland's Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk at the beginning of the hydrogen locomotive presentation. Poland is the second state to start producing a hydrogen locomotive.
The implementation of the innovative project began in 2019, when Pesa established a special research and development team, which aims to produce prototypes of a shunting locomotive and a multiple units with drives using hydrogen fuel cells.
The new hydrogen vehicle from Pesa is built on the basis of the SM42 shunting locomotive. The future locomotive will be four-axle, with traction engines 4x180kW. In the vehicle will be used hydrogen tanks - 175 kg, Traction batteries of type LTO 167,6 kWh, and cells with the power of 2x85 kW. The manufacturer managed to preserve the original traction properties of the locomotive, which means that it can drag the set up to 3200 tons.
Pesa Bydgoszcz SA CEO Krzysztof Zdziarski thanked the company's entire team, especially Lech Lipiński, head of the hydrogen project team at Pesa Bydgoszcz SA, and gave an exclusive interview for our editorial department, which will soon be published on our site.
