The purpose of the reconstruction was the extension and modernization of the railway lines leading to the intermodal railway terminal of the port. Thanks to this, the logistical potential of the port of Gdynia will be increased, reinforcing railway transport, and at the same time, the safety of its operations will be guaranteed. The construction of the Port of Gdynia was realized by Calas Rail Polska. As part of this plan, 2.59 km long railways were modernized and electrified.

This investment is also of strategic importance for the socio-economic development of the country and the region. The port reacts to global trends and the growth of dynamics of rail transport. Electrification will decrease the use of diesel locomotives, reducing noise and pollutant emissions.

"The modernization will increase the capacity of the railway lines, thanks to the possibility of running heavier trains with the help of electric locomotives. The investment will also improve transport conditions, ensure energy savings and speed up maneuvering processes in intermodal transport, '' said Jacek Sadaj, CEO of Port Gdynia S.A.

According to the management plan of Port Gdynia S.A. by 2027, 40% of goods will be managed by rail. Grants in this area are in sync with European strategies, which plan to move specific loads from roads to the railway.

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment for 2014-2020.

The worth of the investment is being estimated to PLN 70 million, of which almost PLN 19 million is co-financed by European Union funds.
