Thales has successfully delivered its new ETCS on-board system on Thailand’s railway, helping improve its performance.
The system enables Thai rail operators the possibility to upgrade to a higher ETCS level at any time in the future, while the modular product design enables flexible integration into the vehicle, which brings key advantages in retrofit projects.

This major project reinforced the strong relationship Thales has with CRRC, the world’s largest rolling stock manufacturer by revenue. Thales has already delivered ETCS on-board systems to CRRC for 8 shunting locomotives of the Berlin S-Bahn. In the Czech Republic, 3 locomotives were jointly equipped for the train operator LEO Express.
With extensive ETCS expertise but also a high market presence in Thailand, Thales has been able to win CRRC Qishuyan’s trust for equipping the new locomotive fleet in Thailand. It is the sixth rail project in Thailand for Thales, but the first with a pure focus on onboard devices.
