Anyone interested in railways, specifically the European region, knows that there is a big change coming. Digitalization. With that comes a lot of new technologies that can be vulnerable to exploits or attacks and therefore will need high-level IT safeguarding. DB Netz AG, duagon AG, Nederlandse Spoorwegen, Real-Time Innovations (RTI), SBB, Siemens Mobility GmbH, SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau, SYSGO GmbH, Thales and Wind River are partnering together to make that safeguarding possible.
This partnership aims to develop a first version of the specification of the possible Application Programming Interface (API) between railway applications and the Safe Computing Platform. Supposed to be published in the spring of 2022 through RCA (Reference CCS Architecture) and OCORA (Open CCS Onboard Reference Architecture) as a basis for prototyping of possible Safe Computing Platform implementations.
The future of rail operations will need many new technologies to be implemented on improved upon. For ex. enhanced Control Command and Signaling (CCS) approaches advanced sensing, artificial intelligence, and IT platforms. RCA and OCORA initiatives have started working on a Safe Computing Platform concept in 2020, expected to deliver the basis for safety-relevant railway applications for onboard and trackside deployment.
