The technology that is usually used on passenger or freight cars is now going to be used by Infranord for their maintenance trains (also known as “Tb locos”). Hitachi Rail will be designing, building, and installing, the onboard signaling system including testing and commission.
This innovative approach for both companies will entail a signaling system based on ERTMS technology (European Railway Transport System) and STM-ATC2. This technology combination allows for maintenance to be done on both upgraded and conventional parts of the railway. As Sweden is continually working on the digitalization of its rail network such an upgrade is a long-term plan to make their rolling stock capable under the conditions to come.
Eric Morand, VP Nordics Hitachi Rail, says: “We are delighted to be supporting Infranord in the transition towards digitization of its yellow maintenance trains in Scandinavia, with our on-board signaling systems.”
