photo: SYSTRA/SYSTRA Celebrates Successful Upgrade of Dalfaber Level Crossing in Scotland
Marking a significant milestone in Scottish railway infrastructure, the Dalfaber Level Crossing in Aviemore has been reopened following an extensive two-and-a-half-year modernization project led by SYSTRA's Level Crossings team in York, UK.
This upgrade, which transforms the last Automatic Open Crossing in Scotland into a new Automatic Half Barrier Crossing (Locally Monitored), promises enhanced safety and modern conveniences for tourists and locals using the heritage Strathspey Railway.
The upgrade encompasses a new road surface, footpath, railway track, road traffic light signals, rail signals, control equipment building, power supply, signage, fencing, and street lighting.
John Lowe, SYSTRA Principal Consultant (Level Crossings), noted that managing stakeholders, which included SYSTRA, Scotia Homes, Strathspey Railway, The Highland Council, and WM Donald, the Principal Contractor, posed a substantial challenge. However, "early, and continued, engagement with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) ensured this Project progressed smoothly through the ORR Statutory Consultation process to a successful culmination."
