Strabag was awarded a modernization contract by HŽ Infrastruktura for 230.6 million euros. From 85% its co-funded by European Union. With preparation and independent quality, the review helps European Investment Bank organization JASPERS. Reconstruction includes the installation of an ETCS safety system and will allow for increased speed.

The contract will encompass 44 kilometers long part of the TEN-T Mediterranean corridor The Hrvatski Leskovac – Karlovac section, which is part of the M202 railway line, that goes from Zagreb to Rijeka, and is part of Rail Freight Corridor 6.

The project will include the installation of ETCS Level 1, modernization of the existing section, and construction of a second track from Hrvatski Leskovac to Karlovac for speeds up to 160 km/h. Furthermore, Strabag is also commissioned to reconstruct multiple stations and stops and stations into stop conversion. In addition, some station useful tracks will be extended to fit 750m train length. Multiple underpasses and overpasses, redirection roads, noise barriers and closed drainage systems are also part of the contract, together with the renewal of signaling and interlocking devices.
