In France, a new collaboration was established between SNCF Réseau, the national infrastructure manager, and the British company Senceive. The aim of this cooperation is primarily to define the requirements for wireless sensors, which have the task of monitoring the condition of rails.
This cooperation should last for two years. Its goal is research and development in this area. Thanks to this project, it will be possible to further analyze the obtained data, which will come from monitoring devices that will be installed at selected locations in France. Specifically, these should be geotechnical instruments.
This initiative is part of SNCF Réseau's High-Performance Network. The main goal of this initiative is primarily the modernization of the railways. Another gradual goal should be to move to predictive maintenance, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the most advanced technologies.
The company Senceive focuses on modern wireless monitoring technology to provide a simple and cost-effective solution with easy installation. The entire system and monitoring devices could be applied on both the interior and exterior assets in a wide range of sectors: from buildings and construction sites to railway tracks. The technologies allow both long-term monitoring of asset conditions as well as an online early warning of failures or dangerous situations. Thanks to this type of information, it will be possible to effectuate maintenance management in a more operative and efficient way.
