SNCF Réseau, the national rail network operator, is carrying out rock wall safety work on the Besançon - Belfort line, more specifically, between Baume-les-Dames and Hyèvre-Paroisse, from June 20 to December 23, 2022.

This EUR 1.4 million operation, financed by SNCF Réseau, aims to contribute to the network performance by guaranteeing optimal conditions of regularity and safety of rail traffic.

A site visit took place today in Baume-les-Dames in the presence of Laure Trotin, Director of the Cabinet of the Prefect of Doubs, Michel Neugnot, First Vice-President of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region, Marie-Christine Durai, Departmental Councillor for Doubs, Jean-Claude Maurice, President of the Community of Municipalities of Doubs Baumois, Arnaud Marthey, Mayor of Baumes-les-Dames, and Jérôme Grand, Territorial Director of the SNCF Réseau Burgundy-Franche-Comté.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

This project consists of securing the rock faces by installing nets over 600 meters. The objectives of the safety work are:

  • to avoid the fall of stone blocks on the track,
  • to replace an ageing device and thus gain in regularity by decreasing the untimely triggering of the detector nets,
  • to improve the regularity and maintainability of this line.

Eight agents will be mobilized daily, and three companies will be involved throughout the project. The local company Tetra, located in Étalans and specializing in difficult access work, is working on this project to install screens against rock falls and landslides. The company Traforex, based in Saulieu, is also working on this project.
