Siemens Mobility and the Slovak rolling stock manufacturer ŽOS Vrútky has received an order from the national Czech freight operator ČD Cargo to equip the 130 series electric locomotives with on-board devices of the European train control system ETCS.
The locomotives (up to 41 units) will be equipped with Trainguard 200 equipment that implements ETCS level 2. This will allow them to be used in international freight traffic in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. The onboard device will also include specialized transmission modules to implement the functions of national ALS systems.
For Siemens, this contract means entry into the ETCS avionics market in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The ŽOS Vrútky company has a plant in Vrutky in the northwest of Slovakia, builds wagons, diesel, and electric trains in cooperation with leading European manufacturers such as Stadler, and specializes in the repair of electric locomotives.
