Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has announced that the construction of the Big Circle Line will be completed in 2022. Its passenger operation is planned for early 2023.

"We will finish the commissioning work at the beginning of next year. It will be the completion of a giant, the largest construction project in the history of the subway, not only in Moscow but in the world," - said the mayor.

According to him, at present, the project is two-thirds ready. Running stations are used by more than half a million people every day. At the same time, Sobyanin expects that when the Big Circle Line is completed, about 1 million passengers will use it daily. It, in turn, will contribute to the unclogging of the radial lines. Passengers will be able to transfer to more than 40 stations of other subway lines, all existing and potential stations of the Moscow Central Diameter and the Moscow Central Ring.

"We are not just opening new stations but creating convenient transport hubs for passengers. Generally, after the BCL launch completion, trips of 3.3 million Moscow citizens will be faster. Now more than 500 thousand people a day use opened stations of the Big Circle Line," said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Earlier it was reported that the northeastern section of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow metro was 90% ready. At the moment, architectural finishing is being done in the stations, as well as the installation of engineering systems. Active work is also underway in the transfer areas of the radial lines to make life easier for the 3.3 million Moscow citizens living in 34 districts.

"Today, tens of thousands of people, who used to drive cars, do not hit the road but use the subway because they can get to work within 10-15 minutes. It also means the unloading of shuttle buses, changing the entire logistics," - concluded the mayor.

When completed, the Big Circle Line, with a length of 70 kilometers, will become the longest circular line in the world, overtaking even the Beijing Circle Line, which until now was the leader in length.
