Infrastruktura Železnica Srbije, the infrastructure manager of Serbia, proudly introduced its investment plans that will cover the modernization of over 300km of rails. Construction work has recently started on the 108 km Novi Sad - Subotica line, part of the Novi Sad - Subotica - Kelebija mainline. An underpass is being built on the Kisačka Street in Novi Sad, and the Novi Sad railway station gets reconstructed. The planned completion of work on the Novi Sad - Kelebija section gets scheduled for November 2024.
The infrastructure manager is also modernizing the 68.8 km long Jajinci - Mala Krsna line on Corridor X, also in its final stages. In September, construction work began on the 22.8 km long Niš - Brestovac line, which forms the railway corridor from Niš to Preševo, while in October, the reconstruction of the 26.6 km long Subotica - Horgoš railway section was started, which will provide transport connections to the Hungarian border. via Szeged. The value of the project, which involves the reconstruction of a 26.63 km long railway between Subotica and Horgoš, is 87 million euros. The whole route is 39.2 km long, of which 12.6 km in Hungary and 26.6 km in Serbia. Infrastruktura Železnica Srbije should complete the project in November 2020, when trains will run at speeds of up to 120 km / h.
The tender for constructing a 17 km long tunnel on the Stalac - Djunis line on the Belgrade - Nis corridor got completed. The project includes the renewal of the single-track section and the construction of its second track and the construction of 7 km of tunnel sections.
In addition, a tender for the modernization of the Nis - Dimitrovgrad railway is still ongoing.
As part of the country's 2021 railway investment plans, 450 km of railways got upgraded, and Serbia has built, refurbished, and modernized 750 km of railways over the last seven years, including 227 km of high-speed lines and 529 km of regional lines, which got completed.
