Webuild successfully completed excavation operations at the new San Tomaso tunnel part of the Terzo Valico dei Giovi – Genoa rail junction construction site. This success reaches the desired milestone of having 83% of the excavation operations of Genoa Junction completed.

The genoa junction plan includes developing two additional tunnels, of which the New Colombo Tunnel will have a length of 1,409 meters, and the Polcevera Tunnel gets planned to have 2,167 meters. The building of these two tunnels will increase the capacities of the connections in the proximity of the junction. The tunnels will potentially increase the frequency by dividing the urban regional trains from the long-distance links. These plans are achievable by connecting the last mile of the Terzo Valico dei Giovi to the Port of Prà -Voltri.

The New San Tomaso tunnel is an approximately 1500-meter-long single track between the Genova Brignole station and the existing section of the San Tomaso Tunnel, where the underground level of Genoa Piazza Principe is located.

One of the junctions, the Terzo Valico dei Giovi – Genoa Junction, will reach a total of 53 km, 37 of which are in a tunnel. 51% of the project got completed to this day. It has improved the quality of the connections between the Italian North and the remaining countries of the EU. By boosting the Italian competitiveness, more roles will get given to them in the European specter. Genoa network and its port will become a more functional and international hub, based on the interconnections to Turin, Milan, and entire Europe.
