Rail Baltica Estonia, together with GRK Eesti AS and GRK Suomi, signed a contract worth 27.2 million euros for the construction of the joint Rail Baltica Ülemiste terminal in Tallinn. All construction work is going to be completed by 2026.

To create space for Rail Baltica with a gauge of 1435 mm, it is necessary to rebuild the existing infrastructure in Ülemiste. That is why it will be required to demolish the existing 16.3-kilometre-long track and build more than 8 kilometres of a new one with a gauge of 1520 mm in its place.

According to Anvar Salomets, the chairman of the board of Rail Baltic Estonia, the construction of the Ülemiste terminal should contribute to the advancement of the entire Rail Baltica project. Most of the work is scheduled to begin within the next year and be completed in 2026. The railway works will also include the reconstruction of the Kantsi viaduct and utility networks that cross the railway.

As part of the Rail Baltica project, the construction of the Urge ecoduct and the Kehtna-Põlma road viaduct started last year. Despite extensive construction work, functional train traffic will be ensured on the main tracks.
