RB Rail and a consortium of Systra, Italferr, and Egis have signed a € 32.3 million contract to provide engineering and plan of the management services for the preparation, procurement, and oversight of the implementation of Rail Baltica control-command subsystems, which include ERTMS level 2 subsystems. The mentioned contract involves security equipment, traffic management, information and communication technologies (ICT), auxiliary, station, and non-traction power supply systems. The agreement covers the entire construction period until the notification period.
Under the new contract, the consortium will take full responsibility for project management, set up a project management office, develop technical solutions, and manage the implementation of the works, ensuring technical supervision of design, construction, system integration, testing, and commissioning, and notification of defects.
“Our goal is to provide a fully unified and interoperable solution of the control-command and signaling system along the whole 870 km Rail Baltica route and to reach this target that we were looking for systems engineering services with the technical expertise, experience, and skills to manage the implementation of this sophisticated, interconnected and almost “state-of-the-art” control-command and signaling solutions,” Marc-Philippe El Beze, the Chief Technical Officer of RB Rail said.
During the implementation of the Rail Baltica project, specific measures have already got prepared for large-scale construction works. Ongoing activities got continuously prioritized, in particular, the design of the mainline and local facilities, which are progressing on more than 640 km of the 870 km line, the first phase of construction work has started in all countries, several consolidated contracts for construction materials got launched in preparation for large-scale agreements for the construction of central lines and the development of the railway system.
The double-track electrified corridor will get equipped with ERTMS allowing trains to run at a maximum operating speed of 234 km/h on the route from Tallinn via Pärnu - Riga - Panevėžys - Kaunas to the Lithuanian-Polish border with a connection from Kaunas to Vilnius.
The new 1435 mm gauge line will comply with all the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI).
