The second half of 2023 will see the beginning of construction on Estonia's Rail Baltica mainline, located in Harju County. Anvar Salomets, Rail Baltic Estonia's Chairman of the Board, stated that if everything proceeds as planned, work on the section originating from the Ülemiste terminal will be launched by the construction firm. By awarding about 30 kilometers of Rail Baltica's primary route for construction this year, approximately 40 kilometers of the mainline will be under development by the first half of 2024. Starting from the eastern side of the Ülemiste station, the construction area stretches 4.8 kilometers and reaches the Lagedi road intersection in Soodevahe Rae municipality. Included in this mainline section is the partial creation of the embankment for the Ülemiste rolling stock depot and the building of the embankment for the envisioned car-carrier station's rail section. The commencement of construction activities is planned for autumn 2023, provided that the procurement process is successful.
