Significant construction progress is being made on the Rail Baltica international passenger terminal at Riga International Airport, the first high-speed rail and air traffic connection centre in the Baltic region. The ongoing work includes the construction of reinforced concrete structures for the station building, the development of foundations for railway platforms, and the establishment of access roads.

This advancement is an important milestone for Latvia, expected to yield immediate and far-reaching benefits on transport, passenger, and cargo flows, and contribute significantly to the economy. Jānis Vitenbergs, the Latvian Transport Minister, highlights this as a transformational moment in travel habits.

The Chairman of the Board of Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, Kaspars Vingris, acknowledges the contribution of all partners involved in the project, emphasizing that a major priority is ensuring the integration of this new infrastructure into the existing transportation network. Changes are already noticeable to airport visitors, and upon completion, enhanced access roads will ease transportation between the airport and the city of Riga. Meanwhile, significant achievements have been realized in constructing the railway station building and installing uniquely designed piles for adjacent platforms, designed to bear heavy loads and accommodate a train speed of up to 120 km/h.

Looking ahead, the Rail Baltica railway station at Riga Airport is set to pioneer a new era in travel for the Baltic region. This state-of-the-art, multifunctional complex will offer new mobility options, with its seamless integration with the existing airport infrastructure heightening travel convenience. The project, scheduled for completion in 2030, signifies a robust step forward in Latvia's transport infrastructure, paving the way for an integrated international high-speed train service and efficient regional commuter trains.
