The construction works have begun on the Rail Baltica railway line at the end of September. Particullary on the section between Czyzew and Bialystok. There is approximately 70 kilometers of a new line, including platforms and the traffic management system. The works were started by the Polish railway infrastructure manager, company PKP PLK.
The construction works will be carried out by a consortium of companies: Przedsiębiorstwo Usług Technicznych Intercor, Stecol Corporation and Sinohydro Corporation Limited. The financial plan for the implementation of the project amounts to 735million. This amount will be partially covered by the EU program Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
Passenger trains will reach speeds of up to 200 km/hour on this line because of this project. The rail freight conditions will improve as well while collision-free intersections will ensure greater safety.
The works will be carried out from 2020 to 2023.
