Chevron U.S.A. (a division of oil and gas corporation Chevron) and Caterpillar signed a cooperation agreement in the field of hydrogen technologies for transportation and energy. The agreement provides for the use of hydrogen as an alternative source of energy in heavy traffic on railways and large sea vessels.
As part of the agreement, Caterpillar's Progress Rail will participate in a demonstration project to build a hydrogen-fueled locomotive and associated stationary fuel cell refueling infrastructure.
Progress Rail is one of the world's largest manufacturers of heavy-duty diesel locomotives.
