Alstom's Rainbow Train initiative, a virtual Pride Parade project, has received the Canadian Urban Transit Association's award in the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) category.
The Rainbow Train initiative was launched in June 2021 and successfully encouraged dialogue and engagement around LGBTQ+ pride and inclusivity. It was conceptualized by two Canadian employees from the LGBTQ+ community during the pandemic to foster an inclusive environment in the company. Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, emphasized the company's dedication to these values, stating, “Our commitment to inclusion is embedded in our values, and embodied by projects like the Rainbow Train.”
Having expanded globally by 2023, the project now involves 1,139 employees from 25 countries and is completing three virtual world tours. This initiative also led to the creation of the Alstom True Colours (ATC) Employee Resource Group for the LGBTQ+ community and allies. According to Alstom, since its inception in 2022, ATC has significantly increased LGBTQ+ community representation, rising from 32% to 51% in a year.
