Czech Railway Administration has selected SAGASTA to design a new central dispatch building for high-speed rail (HSR) in Balabenka, Prague. The project, officially named CDP VRT Praha, is set for completion in 2030.

The CDP VRT Praha building will complement the existing Central Dispatch Center facilities in Balabenka. SAGASTA won the tender with a bid of CZK 38.4 million (excluding VAT)—nearly CZK 1.5 million below the estimated cost.

"We plan to begin construction of the new dispatch center for managing high-speed rail operations within three years. It will also be capable of overseeing operations on existing tracks within the Prague rail hub," said Jiří Svoboda, CEO of the Railway Administration.

"The contract includes preparing the project design and providing construction supervision for the new CDP building, along with associated facilities. These include expanded parking with electric vehicle charging stations and a new energy center to supply electricity for the entire site," explained Emil Špaček, the project’s lead engineer at SAGASTA.

Dual Control for High-Speed Rail

High-speed rail operations in the Czech Republic will be managed from two central locations. The first is under development in Přerov, while the second will expand the current dispatch facility near Libeň railway station in Prague. In normal operations, the two centers will act as backups for each other, ensuring uninterrupted remote control of the entire high-speed rail network in the event of a failure at one location.
