Polish construction company Budimex, involved in the construction of the Czech High-Speed Rail (HSR), continues to progress on the D35 highway project between Džbánov and Litomyšl, despite a slower-than-expected start.
The project, Budimex’s first major road contract in the Czech market, is currently focused on site preparation, including tree felling, topsoil removal, and utility relocations, all of which are proceeding according to schedule.

As RAILTARGET reported earlier, the 7.6-kilometer section of the D35 highway, which will connect the Vysoké Mýto and Litomyšl bypasses, is a significant infrastructure investment. The Directorate of Roads and Motorways (ŘSD) noted that the project started slowly because Budimex was getting used to Czech regulations. However, these early delays won’t affect the overall schedule. Work on the gas pipelines and a bridge in Řídké is already underway, and the project is still expected to be finished by the end of 2027.
"The project for the construction of the D35 highway section represents one of our first steps towards establishing a permanent presence in the Czech market. We aim to become a stable and reliable implementer of key infrastructure investments here," says Krzysztof Sokołowski, Director of Budimex for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Budimex is also managing the relocation of critical infrastructure, such as the 400 kV power line between Hrušová and Cerekvice nad Loučná, which is one of the more complex aspects of the project. Additional traffic adjustments have been made to minimize disruptions on the existing I/35 road, which runs parallel to the construction site.
This project represents a key step for Budimex as it seeks to establish a long-term presence in the Czech Republic. With a bid of EUR 136 million, Budimex secured this contract as part of its broader strategy to become a reliable partner in Czech infrastructure development.
