Better maintenance of machinery and vehicles, including efficient work on tracks, will be ensured by the modern Service Centre of Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe sp. z o.o. in Gdańsk, a company of the PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe S.A. Capital Group. The Service Centre will start work in 2025.

Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe sp. z o.o. in Gdańsk will build a Service Centre for the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. Capital Group. Among other things, the centre will have a periodic repair hall for multifunctional and heavy track machinery. Urban planning and architectural concept are currently being developed. The value of the design work is more than PLN 2.9 million gross. Construction of the facility is planned for 2023/2024, with operations scheduled to start in Q3 2025. The project is possible thanks to the recapitalisation of PLK SA's subsidiaries.

Ecology and modernity

The area of the Service Centre is to be 11,500 m2, approximately 150 m long and 75 m wide. It will allow five tracks to be accommodated inside the hall. Four tracks will be used for maintenance and service repairs. The fifth track will be a technological track, where the wash bay, the preparatory chamber for painting and the painting chamber will be located. The used solutions will facilitate the movement of serviced machines between the car wash, the tracks with workstations, and the paint shop.

The centre will be equipped with photovoltaic panels and heat pumps, as well as the possibility of recuperation.

The investment is directly linked to the successively expanding machine park of the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. Capital Group, and requires specialised service positions due to its innovative equipment.

The modern Service Centre will enable PPM-T to increase its involvement in the commercial repair of machines while ensuring the highest quality of service. This activity of the company has not been developed so far.

Design in modern BIM technology

The construction project is being developed using modern BIM design technology. It is a methodology for conducting a construction project based on the efficient collection, storage and use of information. Thanks to a digital data exchange platform, the contracting authority and the contractor will be able to agree on technical aspects of the project in real-time and identify potential clashes that are very difficult to see in 'ordinary' documentation. A digital model of the building will also be created, which, when supplemented with information from the execution phase of the works, will be used to generate an Asset Information Model. This model will be used during the facility operation and will be a complete database of the actual built facilities.
