Polish Railway Lines (PKP PLK) has signed a contract for the high-speed railway line preparation, which will be designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, as a part of the Central Line modernization. The contract is estimated at PLN 270 million (EUR 58.18 million). The work will be carried out on the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie railway section, on which 43 km of tracks between Psary and Zawiercie will be replaced. The works are expected to start in the second quarter of 2022 and be completed in 2023. At the same time, train traffic on the CMK will not be limited.
To meet the objectives, PKP PLK is currently working on the modernization of 21 objects on the Opoczno Płd – Pilichowice route along the CMK: 15 culverts, four viaducts, and two bridges. In addition, the carrier has already upgraded 73 structures, among them bridges, viaducts, and culverts, as well as replaced five road and railroad crossings with crossings that will help prevent and eliminate collisions.
An ERTMS / ETCS Level 2 system is also being deployed on the section between Korytowo and Zawiercie. After all the works are completed, the certification process is approved and the entire CMK line will function at speeds of up to 250 km/h.
All planned works are part of the Trackwork performance to increase speed on the railway line No. 4 Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie project on the Central Mainline, the modernization of which, according to the contract signed by PKP PLK for EUR 9.87 million, should be completed by the end of 2022.
Moreover, the railway infrastructure manager announced two tenders worth EUR 54.2 million for the two railway sections' modernization, including the ERTMS system implementation.
