The Lodz Voivodship Board has decided to increase its financial support for the construction of a transshipment terminal in the Karsznice railroad district of Zduńska Wola.
The original subsidy amount of PLN 46 million, approved in June, has now been increased by PLN 5.7 million to a total of PLN 51.7 million.
According to Grzegorz Schreiber, Marshal of the Łódź province, the construction of this terminal is a crucial project for the residents of Zduńska Wola and the entire province. By supporting the development of the railroad in Karsznice, the potential of the area will not be wasted, and the investment will positively impact the future of the city and county.
The construction of the modern transshipment terminal in Karsznice is already underway, with the work being carried out on behalf of PKP Cargo Terminale by ZUE. The total value of the investment is nearly PLN 128.6 million, and it includes the construction of two gantry cranes, nine tracks, unloading and storage yards, as well as accompanying infrastructure, such as roads and parking lots, on a 22-hectare site owned by the railroad. The terminal is expected to be operational by the end of October 2023.
The new transshipment terminal in Karsznice is expected to provide comprehensive logistics services for container connections on the New Silk Road between China and Europe, as well as for connections from the Baltic ports to the south of Poland and the entire Central European region. It will also help to make the freight offer of PKP Cargo Group and other rail transport companies more attractive by being located along the international corridor that connects the Baltic ports in Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin, and Swinoujscie with the ports of the Adriatic Sea basin.
The investment is expected to result in a significant increase in the quality of logistics services provided by railroads, as central Poland currently lacks such a modern facility. This, in turn, should increase interest in multimodal transport from both Polish and foreign entities.
