Metro de Málaga has ordered new CBTC signalling technology from the Alstom company, which provided the rest of the metro with this technology back in 2014.
The extension will include two new stations, Guadalmedina and Atarazanas, and a 1.7 km long railway line, which is supposed to connect the most populated parts of the city with the historic centre and, at the same time, the metro with other modes of transport.
Metro de Málaga currently operates two lines with a total length of 13 km and 19 train stations. The city expects the metro extension to double the annual capacity of transported passengers, bringing it from seven million to fourteen million passengers.
Since the CBTC signalling system is used in more than 30 cities worldwide, the Malaga trains are expected to improve their interval power, average speed, operability, and the aforementioned network capacity.
