LTG Cargo, a freight transport company under the LTG Group, is set to make its rail transport operations even more environmentally friendly.
As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, the company has developed a fuel efficiency plan to decrease energy consumption during locomotive shunting and freight transport, aligning with LTG Cargo's commitment to sustainable practices and its broader mission to minimize environmental impact.
The newly implemented fuel efficiency plan will reduce the company's diesel fuel consumption significantly. By analyzing the performance of locomotives in both freight transport and shunting operations, LTG Cargo has identified opportunities to save approximately six tonnes of diesel fuel per week, which equals to filling the fuel tanks to around 120 cars.
"Business can and must grow on the green course," stated Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo, adding, "The Fuel Efficiency Plan and other sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions that LTG Cargo applies to its operations create value for customers who are interested in reducing their CO2 footprint."
In addition to its fuel efficiency measures, LTG Cargo's dedication to quality and environmental standards has been recognized through the Quality and Environmental Management Certificate, obtained back in July. The company is also in the process of acquiring electric locomotives which will enhance its environmental performance. The new electric locomotives are expected to save approximately 780,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, as opposed to road transport, which will enable LTG Cargo to offer entirely green transport options to its business customers.
As part of its broader strategy, LTG Cargo continues to expand its operations domestically and internationally. The company has established subsidiaries in Ukraine (LTG Cargo Ukraine) and Poland (LTG Cargo Polska), employing a team of 1,800 logistics professionals.
