The railway award was awarded to the LNVG in 2021 for its pioneering work with Alstom. In a joint project, they are working with Coradi iLint on the world's first commercially operated hydrogen train. The award was given as part of an online event.
The European Rail Award is organized by the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) and the Association of the European Rail Supply Industry (UNIFE). This award celebrates the achievements of the individuals behind them.
This year was the 14th year. The award took place due to the pandemic situation online.
Carmen Schwabl, managing director of LNVG, said: “I am very happy to recieve this award. We have decided to make this project. There has never been a real alternative to diesel traction motors .. This was our goal to find alternative to diesel. And we are honestly very proud that we did it. "
The first European Railway Award took place in 2007, which was attended by more than 500 guests from all over Europe, both from politics and transport people. The winner is awarded prize money, which is donated to a charity based on their choice.
The European Railway Award jury originally awarded two prizes until 2017. In 2018, it decided to award only one unique winner.
The jury is composed of directors of companies in the railway industry, EU politicians, previous winners and selected journalists. The jury selects the nominated participants and selects the winner by voting.
