The Loudonsteg in Vienna Penzing shines in new splendour. On Friday, 11 November, the completely newly constructed footbridge was opened by Friedrich Janka, axle manager of ÖBB Infrastruktur, Hermann Papouschek, head of MA 29, and Penzing district head Michaela Schüchner.

The head of the bridge construction and foundation engineering department of the City of Vienna, Hermann Papouschek, emphasises: "Bridges and the associated crossings are essential for Vienna. The district of Penzing, with the Vienna River and the railway line, is an area that poses many challenges. It is gratifying that such constructive solutions have been found in the course of the cooperation between the City of Vienna and ÖBB."

ÖBB Infrastructure Axes Manager Friedrich Janka reports on the progress of the construction work: "We had to demolish the old footbridge between the Vienna-Weidlingau and Vienna-Hadersdorf stations because it could no longer be renovated. In the last five months, we have been working on completely rebuilding the 60-metre-long and 10-metre-high Loudonsteg. I am happy that we have now been able to complete the construction work - on schedule."

District head Michaela Schüchner: "I am pleased that the people of Penzing once again have a safe way to cross the railway tracks. On the one hand, the Loudonsteg is an important connection for school classes and kindergarten groups, who can thus reach the Wienerwald more quickly and without danger, and, on the other hand, the Loudonsteg is an important connection to many shopping facilities. Since January 2020, it has been a great concern of mine to preserve this important crossing for pedestrians. I would therefore like to thank ÖBB and the City of Vienna for their support and implementation."

ÖBB has invested around 1.2 million euros in the construction work around the Loudonsteg and will hand it over to the City of Vienna after the warranty period has expired.
