The Rail Baltica project is a monumental rail infrastructure initiative spanning the Baltic nations. Currently in Latvia, the construction of the Rail Baltica Central Station is underway in Riga, while the international passenger terminal near Riga International Airport is being developed. The project leverages modern technology, particularly drones, to monitor construction progress and gather pertinent data. The drones, soaring over the construction sites, provide invaluable insights and detailed imagery, supporting the work of numerous construction teams on the ground.
The construction site adjacent to Riga International Airport is vast in its scope. Alongside the terminal's development, a comprehensive network of new access roads is being established. Drones have played a pivotal role since the design phase, capturing detailed imagery of surrounding structures. Inga Timma, leading the BIM Department at BSL Infra, described the utilization of drones for capturing a multitude of images that are then transformed into a 3D point cloud, providing a comprehensive visualization of the construction site. This remote-sensing data assists multiple stakeholders involved in the project and ensures the consistent and precise progress of the construction.
