The Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has recently visited the MERMEC FERROSUD plant. This Martera-based factory, taken over by the MERMEC Group in 2023 with a €40 million investment, is known for producing rolling stock and railway technologies. The visit was hosted by Vito Pertosa, Chairman of MERMEC Group, and Luca Necchi Ghiri, the Group's Managing Director.

Located in Iesce's industrial area, the 230,000 m2 plant stands as a pivotal railway industrial site in Europe and a strategic asset for Basilicata's industrial district. An aggressive investment and employment plan is in place to employ all laid-off workers and kick-start the revival of a critical industrial hub for Italy. The plant will produce trains for the international market, primarily for France and Portugal, as well as electric diagnostic trains with speeds up to 200 km/h, replacing older diesel engines with 1 MWh capacity batteries.
