DB InfraGO has acquired two rail grinding machines from voestalpine Track Solutions, along with a 900 square meter maintenance hall and nearly 30 employees, aiming to increase in-house maintenance work, improving efficiency and allowing DB to independently complete at least 30% of its grinding tasks next year.

As of today, DB InfraGO has acquired two powerful rail grinding machines from the Austrian specialty company voestalpine Track Solutions Germany GmbH. This acquisition includes a maintenance hall of approximately 900 square meters located in Brandenburg an der Havel, along with spare parts and other materials. Additionally, DB InfraGO is taking over nearly 30 employees at the site as part of a workforce transfer agreement. The contract for this acquisition was signed between DB’s infrastructure subsidiary and voestalpine Track Solutions Germany GmbH at the InnoTrans trade fair in September.

The purchase is part of DB’s comprehensive S3 program, which focuses on restructuring infrastructure, operations, and financial sustainability through 2027. The program aims to restore rail performance, enhance the customer experience, and secure DB’s financial viability. By adding essential heavy equipment and highly specialized personnel, DB InfraGO will be able to handle more maintenance work in-house, improving both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Currently, DB processes around 3,300 switches and thousands of kilometers of track annually using grinding machines, mostly through external contractors. With the acquisition of these large machines, DB InfraGO aims to complete at least 30% of this work independently next year. This move not only expands DB InfraGO’s capacities in Germany’s heavy machinery market but also increases the annual potential for construction and maintenance volume across the network.
