Competitions are currently underway for the installation of photovoltaics in the railway environment. The winners will first design and install the panels so that they can be connected to the grid by the middle of next year. The cost is close to CZK 60 (EUR 2.5) million, with a payback period of approximately ten years at current prices. The total installed capacity will be approximately 1,240 kWp, which corresponds to electricity savings of 1,260 MWh per year.

Among the existing ones, the stations in Brandýs nad Labem, Beroun, or Kuřim will be equipped with solar panels, while the new buildings in Chodov and Aš, which are currently under construction, are already planned to be installed. The panels will also be installed in administrative and operational buildings of the Railway Administration in Brno, Pardubice, Plzeň, Hradec Králové, Ostrava, Olomouc, Ústí nad Labem, and Děčín. They will also be used in suitable transformer stations, construction sites, or on the premises of railway firefighters.
