Rail Baltic Estonia has signed a contract with the joint bidders AS TREF Nord and ATEMO OÜ for the construction of the northern outdoor areas of the Rail Baltica Ülemiste international passenger terminal Linda.

"The development of the Rail Baltica Ülemiste terminal is progressing according to the planned schedule, and the newly signed contract allows us to proceed rapidly with construction. By September at the latest, we will announce the construction tender for the outdoor areas south of the terminal and, most importantly, the terminal building itself," said Rašid Pulatov, the technical director of Rail Baltic Estonia.

The contract covers the design and construction of public areas between the future Rail Baltica Ülemiste international passenger terminal and Peterburi Road. This is the third phase of the development of the future railway station, where work is already underway on the associated railway tracks and the ground floor of the Ülemiste terminal building.

In addition to the construction of routes and communications, the newly signed contract includes the construction of the joint terminal’s northern square and associated bicycle and pedestrian paths, roads and streets, car parks, and the bus station. The contract also includes the construction of the tramway and tram stop leading to the Ülemiste terminal.

The northern outdoor areas also include a prospective station area for the Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel. The duration of the construction contract for the northern outdoor areas of the Rail Baltica Ülemiste passenger terminal is 36 months. The first phase involves design work.

"AS TREF Nord and ATEMO OÜ have previous experience in constructing several objects commissioned by Rail Baltic Estonia. In addition to this, AS TREF Nord is currently working on three Rail Baltic Estonia contracts, which include the construction of two ecoducts, two road viaducts, and one railway bridge. Considering the location of this project, our long-term and successful experience in carrying out construction work in the city of Tallinn will be beneficial," explained Jaanus Taro, a member of the board of AS TREF Nord.

The value of the contract signed with the joint bidders AS TREF Nord and ATEMO OÜ is 20.9 million euros (excluding VAT), which is almost 1.5 million less than the estimated cost in the procurement.

The construction of the northern outdoor areas of the Linda passenger terminal is funded by the European Union and the Estonian state budget.
