Last week marked an important step for Estonia's Rail Baltica project with a cornerstone-laying ceremony at the site of the future Ülemiste Passenger Terminal, set to be completed by 2028.
The event gathered key figures including European Commission's Magda Kopczynska, Estonia’s Climate Minister Kristen Michal, and executives from the construction and design teams. Named Linda, the terminal will serve as a crucial transit hub in Tallinn, linking trains and buses with the airport, city center, and port.
The project kicked off last fall and is now progressing into more detailed phases of construction. Kristen Michal highlighted the terminal as part of a larger effort to strengthen connections across Europe. "This year, we started building the main tracks. By year’s end, we'll have significant portions under construction, which will boost local jobs and, eventually, improve our connections to the rest of Europe," Michal stated. The Rail Baltica line, once complete, will integrate the Baltic states more closely with the European rail network, enhancing both travel and economic opportunities.
The design of the Ülemiste terminal includes features like underground facilities and pedestrian tunnels.
