The bustling port of Constanta in Romania is on the brink of a significant transformation. At the centre of this plan is the Valu lui Traian railway station, a key entry for trains bound for the port. The Romanian Infrastructure Manager, CFR Infrastructura, has shortlisted five contenders for this task, including heavyweights like US Rail Works and local players such as Bawi SRL – Swietelksy CF. Whichever firm gets the nod will be handed a budget of about EUR 81 million, backed by both EU and Romanian funds, to modernize the station and its surrounding area.

The immediate objective of this project is pretty clear-cut. The Valu lui Traian station will see the construction of a new railway yard, complete with 32 electrified lines. In addition, the existing tracks will be upgraded and electrified to ensure smoother operations and connections between different parts of the station. According to CFR Infrastructura, the endgame is to boost transit capacity and make sure trains can move more efficiently.
