Polish carrier PKP Intercity has received the last of 60 modernized COMBO wagons, completing a PLN 310 million contract conducted by a consortium of PESA and ZNTK Mińsk Mazowiecki.

The 111A-30 COMBO cars are multifunctional cars with a higher standard, which were the first in Poland to receive the prestigious "Transport without Barriers" certificate. Obtaining this label means that the upgraded cars, designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities, including wheelchair users, seniors, or parents traveling with children. The upgraded cars also have separate compartments for transporting bicycles.

Modernization also involved the replacement of the chassis with the new 25AN4 type. At the same time, the interiors of the cars have proper soundproofing.

"The most important thing for us is the passenger's perspective, it is them who we put first, and we keep them in mind during further investments. We also fight the exclusion of transport for people with special needs and reduced mobility. We want everyone interested to have a comfortable and safe journey on our trains. Strengthening our fleet with new modernized COMBO carriages brings us closer to this goal. We are gradually investing in the modernization and purchase of new vehicles, ensuring high-quality travel for many residents of towns and villages," says Marek Chraniuk, Chairman of the Board of PKP Intercity.

"When modernizing COMBO cars for PKP Intercity, we used the rich experience gained during the production of the new cars. As a result, the modernized vehicles are equipped with many innovative solutions that we use in our latest designs. We are glad that this is another order of our Consortium with a national carrier, which allows us to have a real impact on the comfort and safety of passengers," explains Krzysztof Zdziarski, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PESA Bydgoszcz.
