On May 18, 2022, Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM) announced that the works on the rehabilitation of the Moldovan railway section Tighina-Basarabeasca-Giurgiulești had started. The project will be implemented on a 233 km long section and will contribute to increasing the capacity, improving safety, reducing the time of cargo transportation and, consequently, creating optimal conditions for the efficient operation of the railroad.

The goals listed above will be achieved due to the removal of weight and speed restrictions. Thus, the speed for freight trains will increase to 90 km/h, and for passenger trains - to 120 km/h.
