Budimex has been awarded a significant contract by the Czech Republic's Directorate of Roads and Highways (Ředitelství silnic a dálnic, or ŘSD) for the development of a 7.6-kilometer stretch of the D35 highway, extending from Džbánov to Litomyšl.

The contract is valued at approx. EUR 148,7 million and marks a significant moment for Budimex's expansion into the Czech market. This project covers the construction of 147 structures, including bridges, overpasses, and flyovers, as well as 6.3 kilometers of noise barriers and the refurbishment of 16 kilometers of local roads. It is expected to be completed by 2027.

The D35 highway is considered a crucial north-south corridor within the Czech Republic, offering a viable alternative to the congested D1 highway and playing a vital role in international traffic. The construction process is expected to kick off in the second quarter of 2024, beginning at the Džbánov junction and extending towards the northwest side of Litomyšl, eventually linking with the D35 Litomyšl - Janov highway section.

"The selection of our bid strengthens Budimex's position on the Czech market, where we have submitted more than 30 bids over the past 2 years," says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA. "The construction of such an important section for the national road network is also an excellent opportunity to transfer abroad our know-how and best practices gained during the implementation of hundreds of kilometers of highways in Poland," he added.

It's worth mentioning that last year was a pivotal year for Budimex, marking its robust expansion into foreign markets, including significant projects in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
