Last week, the General Directorate of National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) and Budimex S.A., responsible for the development of a high-speed rail network, signed a contract to build an 11.4-kilometer section of the S16 expressway between Olsztyn and Barczewo.
The project, valued at EUR 95.6 million, will improve transportation for local communities and ease travel for tourists visiting the Land of the Great Lakes. The new route is expected to be operational by 2028, offering drivers a faster and safer journey from Olsztyn.

The S16 project is part of a larger 30-kilometer expressway connecting Olsztyn and Biskupiec, with the investment divided into two stages: Olsztyn - Barczewo and Barczewo - Biskupiec. Jakub Długoszek, Director of Infrastructure Construction at Budimex, said, "We have been building the Olsztyn bypass along the same route, and we know the area. We are mobilized and ready to carry out this investment."
