RAILTARGET has prepared an exclusive series dedicated to high-speed rail in the Czech Republic. Want to learn more about some of the sections that will be modernized in the coming years and where completely new line construction will take place?

The first section to be upgraded is the line Brno - Přerov, where five constructions will take place within five years, starting in 2025. The 2027-2030 construction will begin on the line Brno - Blažovice (outside), where the ZP has been prepared, the approval of the Central Commission of the Ministry of Transport is still pending, and subsequently, the documentation for the zoning procedure will be prepared.

The 2026-2030 construction will be prepared on the Blažovice (incl.) - Vyškov (incl.) area, where planning permission has been applied for, and a tender for the documentation for the construction and project documentation for construction implementation is being prepared.

In the same year, Vyškov (outside) - Nezamyslice (incl.) - the documentation for the construction has been prepared for the DÚR while the Ministry of the Environment requires a new EIA assessment. It is expected that the application for planning permission will be submitted in 2023, followed by the preparation of the DSP+PDPS documentation.

The construction of the section Nezamyslice (outside) - Kojetín (outside) should take place as early as 2025-2028 - the construction is subject to a non-legally binding zoning decision, and the documentation for the construction and project documentation for construction implementation is being prepared.

In the same timeframe, construction will also take place on the section Kojetín (incl.) - Přerov, where the construction is currently pending a zoning decision, and a tender for the documentation for the construction and project documentation for construction implementation is being prepared.

Modernization of the line also awaits Plzeň - Domažlice, which should take place from 2024 to 2030. In the first section Plzeň (outside) - Stod (incl.) 2025-2029, the scope of involvement of the industrial zone Líně (Gigafactory) is currently being negotiated. In December 2019, an EIA consent opinion was issued and an application for planning permission is currently being submitted, while the documentation for the construction permit is underway.

The second construction will take place in the section Plzeň (outside) - Nýřany - Chotěšov (outside) in 2024-2026 - in January 2020, and the EIA discovery procedure has been conducted here so far. At present, the zoning procedure is underway, and the documentation for the construction permit is being started.

The third construction of 2027-2030 concerns the section Stod (outside) - Domažlice (incl.) - in November this year a binding EIA opinion was issued, and the documentation for the planning permission is currently being processed.

The fourth and last construction in 2026-2028 will affect the section Domažlice (outside) - the German state border. In October 2019, the discovery procedure of the EIA process took place. The zoning decision was stopped based on an appeal by the municipality of Babylon and some owners of the affected land. Currently, the project preparation is being completed, and further preparation will take place in connection with the agreement with Germany on the prospective double-tracking.

Completely new line construction is planned on the line Prague - Smíchov - Beroun, which will take place in 2028-2035. The plan is to build a 24 km-long tunnel. The documentation for the zoning decision is currently being prepared.

The new route will run through Bystřice - Benešov - Prague, where the D204 corridor will be built with a conventional line with a speed of up to 200 km/h. It is a prospective capability of the IV.TŽK for long-distance passenger and suburban transport with a link to the VRT network. Implementation is planned for 2035. The proposed corridor D204 is part of Update No. 3 of the Principles of Spatial Development, while some of the affected municipalities object to the proposed route. In 2023, the Railway Administration expects to form a joint working team with the affected municipalities and commission a Search Study to find an optimal route.
