The initiative aims to promote cycling and increase biodiversity and species diversity. The motto "Cycling for a Flowering Meadow" was emphasized from Bike Day on June 3rd until Environment Day on June 5th, with a goal of covering 200,000 cycling kilometres to achieve this year's target. Austria's cycling enthusiasts surpassed the goal by covering 314,250 cycling kilometres, which led ÖBB to launch its 14th flowering meadow located in Pusarnitz, Carinthia.
The new flowering meadow has been prepared to attract more bees, butterflies, and other insects. ÖBB has arranged a bike tour from Millstättersee station to the new flowering meadow on the komoot platform for those interested in seeing the new meadow and its development. The ÖBB Blühwiesen project aims to establish approximately 18,300 square metres of flowering areas at 13 sites by the end of 2022.
