Everything will be better. But first of all, a lot of work has to be done. In Obertraun, the Obertraun-Dachsteinhöhlen and Obertraun-Koppenbrüllerhöhle stations will be modernized and railroad crossings renewed by November 30. ÖBB is thus implementing comprehensive modernization measures on the Salzkammergut Railway to provide travellers with modern and barrier-free stations. By offering an even more attractive train service in the future with shorter travel times and faster transfers, ÖBB wants to convince even more people to switch to the environmentally friendly train.
"Fortunately, the desire to travel by train is growing. With a bundle of measures, we are also creating contemporary, customer-friendly stations on regional trains. Raised and barrier-free platforms and modern-customer information in real-time make the switch from private transport to public transport particularly attractive. If the offer is right, then a sustainable and environmentally friendly train journey is a real alternative to car travel both for the daily commute to work or school, as well as for tourists," says Judith Engel, Member of the Board of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG.

"For 145 years, the railroad has connected Obertraun with the world and has contributed significantly to the town's cultural and economic development. In the past, it was mainly brown coal that was delivered and salt that was taken away, but, today, an efficient railroad with modern stations is additionally of central importance for us to direct the flow of tourists by public transport to the attractions of the region. I am also pleased that the respective modernizations harmonize so well with the historic style of the Salzkammergut Railway," says Mayor Egon Höll.
