AŽD completed the full digitalization of the Plum Railway between Obrnice and Čížkovice. It is the first application of intelligent railway 4.0 on the Czech infrastructure, which keeps pace with modern world trends in railway management and security.

In 2016, when AŽD bought the Švestka railway, it vowed to resume daily operations, at the same time, turning this regional railway into a test polygon for technologies of various kinds and putting into operation a modern digital railway.

"For three years, we have been intensively developing, investing considerable funds and then gradually installing the technologies that, thanks to digital communication, now constitute intelligent railway 4.0. We are now verifying it from the point of view of safety, reliability and accessibility in the normal load of regular clock transport on the line U10 Litoměřice h.n. - Most," said Zdeněk Chrdle, Director General of AŽD, to Litoměřický deník.

All technologies produced by AŽD are in their most modern versions within the framework of the intelligent digital railway. The entire line is controlled from the technology centre in Třebívlice under the supervision of the SationSwing ESA signalling equipment. It is used to control the outdoor stations and transport stations in the track via distributed object controllers.

The level-crossing interlockings are controlled by a central device and are equipped with intelligent peripherals. Conventional technologies are followed by the ETCS single train control system with automatic transitions between the two levels. The entire line is covered by GSM-R/GPRS radio and, in sections intended for testing autonomous trains without drivers, also by LTE and spot Wi-Fi.

All systems are controlled remotely from the control centre in Lovosice with central supervision from the AŽD headquarters building in Prague. All data is available online - digitally processed traffic data for passengers.

"AŽD is preparing for the first foreign installation of the Intelligent Digital Railway 4.0 system as part of our new Hungarian order on the Szeged - Rözske line, which is an integral part of the large Szeged railway junction," concludes Zdeněk Chrdle.
